We are Begga and Sveinn, the same team as behind Íslenski Hesturinn – The Icelandic Horse. Along with our two daughters and our friendly dog, we love opening our doors to travelers who want to experience true Icelandic life and flavors.

What to Expect

  • A Cultural Connection & Conversation:
    • This evening is about more than just a meal; it’s an opportunity to connect with the heart of Iceland. As your hosts, we love sharing our lives and our deep roots in this country with our guests.
    • We invite you to dive into the conversation with us! We love discussing everything from Icelandic history and folklore to modern-day life and local stories. In fact, the more curious you are, the better! We thrive on your questions and are happy to share the kind of local insights and interesting facts you won’t find in any guidebook.
  • The Atmosphere: A warm, friendly-oriented environment for groups of 4 to 12 people.
  • The Location: For reference we are located within easy walking distance of the Hilton Hotel Reykjavík, not too far from the city center.
  • The Menu: We serve a three-course meal including a delicious starter, a main course, and a dessert. For main course you can choose between:
    • Traditional Icelandic Lamb with all the classic trimmings.
    • Freshly prepared Salmon.
    • Our signature Fish Lasagna.
  • Good to Know:
    • The Family: We are a family of four, though our daughters are university students and aren’t always at home; however, you might see them around during your visit!
    • Our Dog: We have a friendly dog who loves meeting new people! She can get a bit excited when new guests arrive, but she relaxes once she gets to know you. Please ensure everyone in your group is comfortable with an enthusiastic pet being present in the home.
    • Group Size: We can accommodate groups of 4 to 12 people together. If your group is smaller than 4, please note that the starting rate is based on 4 people.
  • The Timing:
    • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM (19:00–21:00): Our standard dinner time.
    • 6:00 PM (18:00) Start: If you’d like to arrive an hour early, you are more than welcome to join us for the preparations. You can see how we prepare the meals and learn the traditions behind our kitchen before we sit down to eat at 7:00 PM.

Booking & Requests

To keep things personal, we handle all dining requests via email rather than automated booking.

How to book: Send us an email at meet@horses.is with your requested date(s). To help us give you the best experience, please let us know:

  1. Which main course(s) your group is interested in (the same meal for the whole group).
  2. If you would like to join us for the preparations at 6:00 PM.
  3. If you would like wine served with your dinner.
  4. Any other relevant info (such as food allergies, intolerances, or if you are celebrating a special occasion!).

Once we receive your request, we’ll send over the pricing, availability, and all the practical details you’ll need to finalize the booking.
